Are You Planning to Reseed Your Lawn?

Three Ways To Get The Kitchen Remodel You Want At A Lower Price

Maybe you're tired of your current kitchen and want a new, fresh look. But you're hesitating to undertake a full kitchen remodel because your budget is limited.

Fortunately, there are ways to get the kitchen of your dreams and not break the bank. Here are three ways you can maintain a quality look without spending a fortune.

1. Ready-to-assemble (RTA) cabinets.

Kitchen cabinets can be custom made for the size of your kitchen and your needs, but that can be expensive. On the other hand, you don't want pre-made cabinets, because those won't give you the look you want or fill the space you have properly. The middle ground: ready-to-assemble (RTA) cabinets.

A high-quality RTA cabinets collection can allow you to get exactly the size and style of cabinets you need. RTA cabinets come with the pieces shipped flat that you put together yourself (or you can hire a qualified contractor). Look for a high-end RTA collection with cabinets that are made of all wood -- no particle board -- and use dove-tail drawers for maximum durability.

Many home stores carry lines of RTA cabinets (such as Facets RTA Cabinetry) and employees there can help you take room measurements and choose the best configuration for your kitchen. As a bonus, ordering the cabinets and assembling them often takes much less time than having custom cabinets built and installed.

2. Lower quality granite countertops.

Granite countertops look amazing and add maximum value to your home. The problem is that they can be very expensive and difficult to install.

But knowing a little more about granite can help you save. Granite is graded -- depending on the manufacturer, that can be on a scale of 1 to 5 or simply high, mid and low or commercial grade.

Instead of using the best grade of granite, seek out a grade-2 piece that will still look amazing but may have color "flaws." This means that the granite piece isn't a uniform pattern but has natural areas of color that vary throughout the piece. Some people even prefer this look as it's more natural.

There are also man-made materials that look like granite but cost less, and laminate products that mimic the appearance of stone. Some laminate options even include the ability to install undermount sinks, making them seem even more like true stone.

3. Porcelain floor tile.

Stone tiles look great on a kitchen floor, but porcelain and other options can give you the look of stone with a smaller price tag.

Choose larger tiles to minimize the work that must be done sizing, cutting and adhering. You could even look for a linoleum floor tile that gives you the pattern you want at a better value.
