Are You Planning to Reseed Your Lawn?

Using Recycled Fabric Creatively At Home

If you enjoy sewing or you just have a lot of extra fabric lying around, you can use it to create some completely unique home decor items. Fabric is versatile and even if you don't have much experience making crafts, there are several easy projects you can try so the fabric doesn't get thrown away. Here are a few fun ideas for you to try so that you can make a completely unique, one of a kind home decor item.

Custom Pillows

Take some scrap pieces of fabric and sew them together to make an interesting pillow case. You can do this in any shape you like including small throw pillows, lumbar pillows, or a standard pillowcase size. Use different patterns and colors of fabric and sew them randomly for a cool eclectic look, or just take a larger piece of scrap fabric and convert it into a pillow case. If you don't have an extra pillow you need to cover, you can purchase pillow inserts to stuff it with.

Adorable Wall Hangings

For a cute addition to a child's room, cut a piece of heavy cardboard in the shape of the first letter of your child's name. Glue small pieces of scrap fabric onto the cardboard and let it dry, then hang it on the wall for a really cute and unique decor item. You can cut the cardboard into any shape you like including animals or flowers. This is a simple and fun project that would be great to do with the kids helping out.

Decorative Lamp

Take a simple plain lamp shade and glue pieces of fabric onto it. You can combine various patterns together to make it really cute and unusual, or just take a larger solid extra piece of fabric and cover the whole shade with one, consistent piece. This is a great way to spruce up a boring lampshade and add some interest to the room. Use a glue gun to apply the fabric to the shade and let it dry completely before you put it on the lamp and turn it on.

Party Banners

For your next party, why spend extra money on decor when you can make it yourself? Dig through your scrap fabric pile and cut out several pieces and hang them from a rope or piece of string to make a cute banner. You can use alternating patterns to create a fun and unique party banner that's really simple to construct. Simply fold the top of the fabric piece over the rope and glue it together on the back side. Let it dry, then hang it up for a festive addition to any party. Fabric can be used to make just about anything, so before you throw those extra scraps away, get creative and use it to make some wonderful decorative items.
